What is VoIP?

VoIP is an acronym for “Voice over Internet Protocol”, also known as “Voice over IP”. VoIP is phone service over the internet. It uses the same connection as your computer and the result is a lower phone bill.  There is a more in-depth answer in our “What is VoIP?Learning Series article.

What are the benefits of VoIP?

One of the biggest benefits is cost savings. Other benefits include adding remote offices or employees to your corporate phone server anywhere they work.

Why would I want to switch my phone service to VoIP?

By switching to VoIP, you can lower your phone bill. Many of our clients see savings of 30% or more.

How much bandwidth do I need?

Approximately 100kpbs per phone call (actual bandwidth required is less but this estimate allows for better overall call quality). An office of 15 employees, all on the phone at the same time, would use the equivalent of a standard T1 connection.

What if my internet goes down?

The internet is getting more reliable all the time. If it does go down, we have the ability to route your calls to a cell phone or any other alternate location.

What is a hosted PBX?

Imagine having a state of the art phone system with all of the bells and whistles you would ever want, without having to worry about it. We have the phone server in our fully redundant datacenter and perform regular maintenance, upgrades and backups.

What is a PBX in the cloud?

Our hosted PBX or Cloud PBX is a full featured phone system that is managed by us in our fully redundant data-center. Upgrades, backups and maintenance are all included in your monthly fee.

Will my existing phones work with VoIP?

Almost all SIP compliant VoIP phones will work. If you have a digital or analog phone system, your phones will work with the addition of a SIP gateway or converter.

How much does it cost to switch?

If you are going to use a SIP converter, it will cost $300 – $600 for the device and $11 per phone number. If you are using a VoIP server or hosted PBX, it will cost $11 per phone number.

Can I keep my existing phone numbers?

Yes! You can keep your existing numbers. You can also add new ones at any time.

Will 911 work from my phone?

Yes! Your phone number and address will be included in the e911 database.

What features are included?

If there is a feature you want, chances are it is available and included. Here is a short list of the most commonly used features: voicemail to email, auto attendant, conference calling, call parking, find-me/follow-me. Call us for a complete list.

 

Can I integrate my VoIP phone system with my company software?

Many software packages are designed to take advantage of data that is available from a VoIP phone system.  Others may require some custom programming.  We can review your software package to assess whether this is a viable option.
